Perhaps smelling blood in the water after Rose Marie joined Twitter at age 94 and gained over 100,000 followers just like that, acclaimed actress Lois Smith (b. 1930) has now joined the social network in honor of turning 87.
Her attitude upon joining Twitter is to be admired: "I don't know what I'm doing here, but I'm always up for new experiences."
The timing is right for Smith to make a social-media splash — she has recently drawn raves for her strong performance in this year's Marjorie Prime, a film that's been compared to Her (2013) for its emotional look at technology.
Smith also appears in the buzzed-about flick Lady Bird, which is in theaters in the U.S. as of today.
Smith has been working as an actress since the dawn of the '50s, appearing in a slew of absolute classics, everything from East of Eden (1955) to Five Easy Pieces (1970) to Fatal Attraction (1987).
She is also a revered stage actress with two Tony nominations and many accolades, including Drama Desk and Obie awards.
