Are you ready for not one but three new Exorcist films?

I don't know what possessed Universal, but they've signed David Gordon Green (known for the current Halloween series of reboots the first of which came out in 2018) to direct, and Ellen Burstyn to reprise her performance as Chris MacNeil alongside newcomer (to the franchise) Leslie Odom Jr.

Good for Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn to, at age 88, but the lynchpin for a new horror trilogy, even if it's based on classic source material

You may be wondering about Linda Blair, who was such an integral part of the original ... and in news guaranteed to make your head spin, she is wondering, too! Blair wrote on Twitter:

“To all my fans asking about my involvement in the new Exorcist reboot, as of now there has not been any discussions about me participating or reprising my role. I wish all those involved the best and I appreciate the loyalty and passion the fans have for The Exorcist and my character.”

Later, Blair told The New York Post:

“They were polite enough to call. We spoke how amazing Ellen Burstyn is and that was as far as the conversation went. I have no idea what the project is about and I have not been engaged in a conversation of participation. It was just letting me know they were going to do the film.”

According to THR, the first of the new Exorcist trilogy will debut theatrically on October 13, 2013, and on Peacock.
