Auction: Marilyn, ‘Oz’ & More — Oh, My!

The latest Julien's Auctions sale, Legends, is happening today (June 13) and tomorrow (June 14) — and it has some pretty amazing, and amusing, goodies for fans of Hollywoodiana.

Among the most interesting lots? Lots 'n' lots of personal Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962) items, and some stunning original photos of the great icon, including the above snap by Harold Lloyd (1893-1971). Kind of amazing thinking of those two cinematic greats on each side of a lens.

Also a big deal are several lots of never-seen, on-set photos (with negatives) from the making of The Wizard of Oz (1939). How they lasted this long without being ogled publicly — 80 years+ — is anyone's guess, but they're fascinating. They're also a hot ticket, with estimates of $400-$600 being blown away by early bids in the thousands, even some six-figure bids before the auction opens.

There are also some historical oddities, like a collection of Henny Youngman (1906-1998) jokes on index cards, Tony Curtis (1925-2010) art and fantastic astronaut fare.
